Okay, so here’s the scoop: Celebrants are having a major moment right now. With more people opting for personalized ceremonies that actually mean something to them, the demand for Celebrants is skyrocketing. And the profession itself is becoming more of a recognised ‘thing’ with people knowing to seek out a celebrant in the first place. 🌟
Lots of past careers lend themselves to the celebrant role – transferable skills are us! Whether it’s wedding celebrant training or funeral celebrant courses or the whole celebrant training package you’re after we’re always interested in what’s brought you to our door.
We’ve chatted with loads of our celebrant graduates about what led them to this wonderful, warm and, sometimes, challenging career and the reasons they’ve shared for their independent celebrant training are as heartwarming as they are inspiring. Ready to see if any of these hit home for you? Let’s dive in.
Turning Life’s Plot Twists into Purpose
You know those experiences that made you go, “Wow, that was a meaningful moment”? Turns out, they’re often the springboard for a career as a celebrant. From a joy-filled wedding to a funeral done well (or, sadly, badly) these life events can give people their first… hmmmm …. Moment. The fist little inkling that independent celebrant training might be for them the first flicker of what their future could hold.
Many celebrants we’ve trained have been through their share of love, loss, and life and instead of just putting them in the ‘life happens’ file of their mind, they’ve used those experiences as the first step in researching just what is a celebrant and channelled that experience into helping others navigate those same milestones.
Empathy, wisdom, and compassion? Absolutely, , clients can feel that, and it’s why they’ll love you. Embrace your soft-skills they really are at the heart of making a good celebrant, a great one.
Hello, Meaningful Work.
If you’ve ever sat at your desk staring at yet another spreadsheet or just returned home from another day of emergencies at work and thought, ‘Is this it?!’, then you’re not alone. Many people switch to celebrancy because they’re craving work that makes their soul do a little happy dance. We have lots of people come to us who’ve had very successful corporate careers – they’ve done the power suit and the Power Point and now they want something deeper.
By training to be a celebrant, you’re not just ticking boxes. You’re crafting moments that stay with people forever – whether it’s a wedding, a naming ceremony, or a celebration of someone’s life. And honestly, who wouldn’t want a job where meaningful moments are basically the cornerstone of what you do?
Bringing Your A-Game (and Your Transferable Skills)
The cool thing about Celebrancy? You may not realise it but you’ll already have a ton of transferable skills. Maybe you’ve mastered public speaking as a teacher, got killer organizational moves from running a business, or have creativity from your days as a writer or performer. Nurses and carers get on board with their boat-loads of empathy and often we have people who have done the corporate gig and have liaison skills coming out of their ears. And, if you’ve spent your days as a homemaker – fear not, dealing with a tantruming toddler or a stroppy teenager gives you better mediation skills than the UN!.
Celebrancy training lets you flex all those skills in ways that feel fresh and exciting. Plus, your unique talents make you stand out in the field. (And yes, we’re looking at you, multi-tasking legends and creative geniuses.)
Flex Your Schedule, Not Your Stress Levels
Raise your hand if you’ve ever dreamed of being your own boss. (You can put your hand down now.) Being a Celebrant is all about flexibility.
If you’re looking for something that fits around raising kids or enjoying semi-retirement or in tandem with another role, you’ve got options. You decide how much or how little you work, what ceremonies you want to lead, and when to block out time for a cheeky midweek yoga-fest.
We’re not going to lie, you’ll be busy – building a sustainable business requires a degree of dedication and tenacity. But, your time is your own and if you have diary non-negotiables (Tuesday morning Spanish Class) that’s your call. Que genial es eso?! We quite often do an evening shift getting work done in the quiet of the night and let ourselves have an afternoon off in lieu – nice.
Joining the “Ceremonies for Everyone” Movement
Here’s the thing, back in the day, if you wanted to get married, it was church or an often fairly dull registry office. These days, people want ceremonies that actually reflect who they are

– their beliefs, values, and vibes.
Celebrants are at the forefront of this movement, creating ceremonies that embrace individuality and inclusivity. Whether it’s a couple from different cultural backgrounds tying the knot or a family saying goodbye to their person in a way that truly honors their life, wedding celebrants and funeral celebrants are changing the ceremony landscape and if you train to be a celebrant, you can be part of that too.
We are ceremony! At Match & Dispatch helping you to train to give the best ceremonies you can possibly give is our mission. We believe that our training will give you the time, space and support to develop your skills and enable you to become an
