Am I Too Old to Become a Celebrant?

(Also applies if you’re asking: too tired, too out-of-touch, too menopausal, too late.)

Short answer:
No.

Slightly longer answer:
Absolutely not. In fact, you might be exactly the kind of person celebrancy needs.

We get this question all the time — usually with a whiff of unfilled dreams attached.
“I’d love to do it, but… I’m probably too old now.”
(Then they tell us they’re 54 and we laugh for about ten minutes — especially Kate T, who said goodbye to 54 some time ago.)

Here’s the truth:

Celebrancy is the perfect second-act career

Most people don’t leave school saying “I want to be a celebrant.”
They discover it after years of life — working in schools, hospitals, offices, community centres, kitchens, on stages, or in supermarkets. They’ve raised kids. Cared for parents. Been through grief and love and change and resilience.

Which means they’re:
– Brilliant at listening
– Great under pressure
– Unafraid of people crying in front of them
– Full of emotional intelligence
– And very, very done with nonsense

In other words: ideal celebrant material.

But what about the techy stuff?

You do not need to be a whizz on TikTok or know how to code a website from scratch.
If you can write an email, use a Google Doc, and handle a video call — you’re already fine.
And if you can’t? We help you. Step by step. No eye-rolling.

Honestly, some of the best celebrants we’ve trained still start texts with “Dear” — and their clients adore them.

What about standing up and speaking?

If you’ve ever:
– Run a meeting
– Taught a lesson
– Given a reading
– Held your family together at a wake
– Organised an event
– Talked a distraught friend off the ledge
– Or made a room of people cry and laugh in the same conversation…

You’re already halfway there.

We’ll teach you the rest — and we promise not to patronise you.
We know how much life experience you bring to the table, and we’re genuinely impressed by what a talented, diverse and incredibly skilled group of people you older folks are.

The real question is: Do you want to do this?

Because that’s what matters.
Not how old you are.
Not how many followers you have.
Not whether you know how to make a reel.

Do you want to:
– Help people mark life’s big moments with meaning and love?
– Use your words and your presence to hold space?
– Do something that actually feels like it matters?

Then no — you’re not too old.
You’re just in time.
